    — Great experience
    — A total package

The venue was the perfect setting for an island survival challenge. Food resources were extremely difficult to find, the river had dried up, and there was no reliable water source.

Despite all these challenges, we managed to surviveand that made the experience even more rewarding. I will definitely join the next Island/Jungle Survival Challenge plus I’ve won
a BOKRI which could be usefull on the next survival challenge 😛
(this was the price of my team and since only 1 bokri, we have decided to make a draw and luckily it was me, but this bokri represents team 1 not only me).

This was a true test of capability not just physically, but mentally and in terms of real survival skills.

The organizers and their team played a huge role in making this event successful. They consistently checked on our safety throughout the challenge.

Local authorities, including the municipal team and police, were also present to ensure our safety. At times, it even felt like they were enjoying watching us struggle to find food and resources!

The participants were friendly and supportive as well, which added to the overall experience.

I went into this island survival challenge really excited, especially because I was looking forward to building my own shelter using natural resources. That was honestly one of the things I wanted to challenge myself with. So at first, I felt quite disappointed when we were instructed to use a tarp instead. It felt like I missed out on a core survival skill I was hoping to learn and experience firsthand.

But as the days went on, I realized that the rest of the experience made up for it. Survival on the island was no joke. Finding food was incredibly difficult—the sea felt almost lifeless, and it took so much time and effort just to get anything at all. There was no reliable water source, which made everything even more challenging.

Making fire was another struggle. It wasn’t as easy as it looks; it took patience, persistence, and a lot of failed attempts before you could finally get it going. Nights were especially tough—cold, uncomfortable, and a bit overwhelming at times.

But even with all these hardships, one thing I really appreciated was how safety was always a priority. Sir Ricky and the rest of the staff were consistently checking on us, making sure everyone was okay. Even the local authorities were involved, which made the whole experience feel more secure despite the challenging environment.

Sir Ricky is also very knowledgeable, and you can really see his experience in the way he guides us. He didn’t just supervise—he made sure to impart skills and knowledge to us throughout the activity, which was especially helpful since most of us were beginners. Because of that, we didn’t just survive—we actually learned.

Despite everything, the experience was genuinely worth it. It pushed me out of my comfort zone, tested my limits, and taught me a lot about resilience and appreciation for the basics we often take for granted. It wasn’t perfect, and it definitely didn’t go the way I initially imagined, but it turned out to be something meaningful in its own way.

Overall, I’d still say it was a great experience—and I’d definitely join the next survival again, hopefully this time getting the chance to build a shelter the way I originally wanted.

This is not your everyday immersive course, way beyond standard outdoor camp. Also, I get to re-evaluate and restrict my gear down to the very minimum, beyond ultralight. Enough to survive, with little to no comforts. Just bare bone equipment.

The course also taught me that one can survive with no meal plan (1-3 meals a day). Forage for possible sustenance, eat what you have and only when you need to. Conserve energy to get through the day. Learn to adapt and be creative in acquiring food and materials for the camp.

With our effective resource instructors, skills like fire building, resource management, resilience training got bumped to the next level. It helped us got through the whole course with no setbacks.

Thank you to the SOSC Organizers, LGU (PNP, LDRRM and Mayors Office) and the Locals for having us. Hats off to JOMALIA Shipping Corporation for taking us to and from Camotes Island, keep up the good work!
